The new Italian inspired muIti level Brisbane venue from the team behind one of the world's best bars

Brisbane and Fortitude Valley’s bar scene is set to sizzle this summer with the official opening of La Costa Bar and Cielo Rooftop Bar from December 11. The team behind Salt Meats Cheese and Eterna has joined forces with the crew responsible for internationally acclaimed World’s Best Bar (#11) Sydney haunt Maybe Sammy, to create a multi level venue inspired by the Italian Riviera.

A total of four venues are planned (La Costa Bar and Cielo Rooftop Bar are the first), followed by a restaurant and wine bar in early 2021. Filling the space vacated by Foresters Restaurant and Altitude Bar (nestled behind the historic facade of 209 Brunswick Street) all four venues in La Costa draw inspiration from the Italian coast (sea, land, and sky), as well as the iconic flavours and lifestyle of the region.

The acclaimed Maybe Sammy team (World Number 11 Bar (World’s 50 Best, 2020), are behind the beverage menus for the operation, with owners Stefano Cantino, Vince Lombardo and Andrea Gualdi bringing their knowledge of delivering an experiential venue to Queensland for the first time.

“To work again with my life-long friend, Stefano, on a venue that’s inspired by our home and memories is so much fun,” says Salt Meats Cheese, Eterna and La Costa owner, Stefano di Blasi.

Cielo rooftop bar will feature a cocktail menu of inspired sips and flavours of the region with stand-out cocktails to indulge in over summer include the Portofino with Ketel One, mango, passionfruit, maraschino, orange Curaçao, lemon and a tropical bubble, and the Venice Beach combining the classic strawberry daiquiri and piña colada.

Alongside the world-class cocktails, champagnes, wines and spirits, there will be a seafood-focused menu featuring octopus carpaccio with fried capers, kingfish ceviche with shaved fennel, grapefruit and dill, and prosciutto, bocconcini and honey en croute perfect for summer rooftop snacking.

The bright, breezy ground-level venue, La Costa Bar will continue the theme of luxurious splendour of Italy’s coastline, and be stocked with top-shelf spirits, plentiful champagne as well as Italian wine varietals. Cocktails will be a focus, of course, with the feature Mango Coffee Margarita with Calle 23 Blanco tequila, Mr Black Coffee Liqueur, mango and lime.

With a small but satisfying food menu inspired by aperitivo culture, guests can enjoy DIY tapas boards and small plates like parmesan fries and crab bruschetta whilst sipping on some fave concoctions, with live music and DJs completing the coastal atmosphere.
